North Head helped PFCD engage in the 2016 U.S.-China Health Summit, held in Xi’an, China from 2 to 4 September 2016. At the summit, PFCD Chairman Dr. Kenneth Thorpe delivered a keynote address and co-hosted the summit’s Public Health Forum with Director-General Wang Yu of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The forum addressed how policymakers can tackle challenges related to such public health threats as chronic, non-communicable, and infectious diseases.
With chronic disease accounting for 86% of deaths in China, PFCD supports China’s fight against chronic disease. North Head has been providing government relations and public affairs support to PFCD since 2015 for its engagement with various government and industry stakeholders. Through the U.S.-China Health Summit, the PFCD was able to reach over 1,000 policymakers, academic experts, and business leaders working in global health. The Summit has been endorsed by the U.S. Department of Human and Health Services, the National Health and Family Planning Commission of China, Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health, Tsinghua University School of Public Policy & Management, and Peking Union Medical College.
